Music Geek Monthly 17

Chapter Arts Centre Thurs 31st May 2012 - 8PM

So here it is: The 17th edition of Music Geek Monthly!

For those of you that don’t know; Music Geek Monthly is kind of like a book club…..but for music. Each month we choose 2 albums, 1 ‘classic’ and… 1 new release and then go away and listen to them (Perhaps at the Chapter listening event). The albums chosen last month were:

New Release - Santigold - Master of my make believe

Classic - FAith no more - Angel Dust (Chosen by Rich)

Past New release albums have included (Group scores in brackets out of 10): Fuyija and miyagi - Ventrilloquizzing, Mogwai - Hardcore will never die but you will (6.6), The Cave Singers - No Witch (5.8) and Cats Eyes - Cats Eyes (7.2), Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact (4.8), Sparrow and the workshop - Spitting daggers (6.2), She Keeps Bees - Dig on (5.8), Beirut - The Riptide(6.2), Wilco - The Whole LOve (5.5), Still Corners - Creature of an hour (5.9), Thee Oh Sees - Carrion Crawler (6.6), The Black Keys - El Camino (6.7), Grimes - Visions (7.1), Olafur Arnalds (5.7)

Marvin Gaye - What’s going on? (6.2), ABC - The Lexicon of love (7.2), Nirvana - Nevermind (6.9), Bob Dylan - Desire (6.8), Wire - 154 (6.1), The Notwist - Neon Golden (7.3), Leonard Cohen - Songs of love and hate, Sonic Youth - Dirty (5.9)

Both albums will discussed at this next meeting. In addition, the main part of the event is given to listening and reviewing new releases in a hit, miss or maybe style. Also, there will be a chance to preview upcoming gigs, win raffle prizes (Tickets, good CDs, crap CDs etc…) and generally have an opportunity to discuss all things musical. I hope you can join us. It’s been great fun so far. Andrew

Oh, and by the way, bring an album along that you deem a ‘classic’ to be a potential album of the month. Follow the event on:
